Of Cake

I like the simplicity of the cake above. Less is more isn't it?

My ideal wedding cake must be delicious. I have no other requirement apart from it has to be 2-tier with vanilla buttercream frosting and must have separate flavor for each tier. I had a fondant cake as hantaran for my super simple and small engagement in February. Fondant cake is pretty, yes but we all know that we can't eat the sugary paste and decoration, right?

I was planning to have a red velvet and carrot cake for each of the tier. So I emailed few vendors regarding my request. Only one of them replied. From the way she replied, it's impossible to have red velvet as a wedding cake unless your venue is air conditioned. If you're having a home reception like mine, I think I have to forgo the idea. Red velvet cake is normally frosted with cream cheese.

But red velvet is so delish!

What other alternative do I have? I do not want the typical chocolate, butter or even fruit cake. B.O.R.I.N.G!

So far, I've emailed That Last Slice and Bite Me! for the cakes. No prize in guessing which one hasn't reply yet.

I am open to any suggestion and recommendation on the cake, really. So feel free to jot down in the comment box below.

its so boring to have a typical cake on wedding day...choc, vanilla, fruit cake etc..but normally we juz taste it in a small qtt..am i rite? coz after that u'll bz with others...meeting ur relatives,taking a picture, bla bla bla..after ceremony sure will exhausted... =)
so, if u cannot find any vendors who can make ur red velvet, i guess u need let it go heheh hopefully u can find it babe...

one of the vendor that i emailed willing to bake the red velvet cake but the cake itself is too delicate in our hot humid weather. i have no qualm to forgo the idea. i have carrot cake to back it up.

the taste of the cake is very important because, i intend to give some of the cake for guest to eat and for me to keep. regardless of how tired or exhausted i am, a cake can make my day.

mo0se,hari tu amek thatlastslice velvet rouge untuk open house..memang sedap gile..tapi dlm bilik air cond pun tak boleh sesuai lama2..i bet wedding lagi sush sikit kot..sbb cream cheese tu..tp mmg heaven btul cream cheese thatlastslice..heaven!i pun have to let go je dream nk velvet cake for my wedding..huhu

aku horror gile tau pasal kek. dewan kata aku dapat free cake, sekali nan ado! tiga hari sebelum majlis baru gitau. tak ke haru! terus aku call carik kak haidar mintakkan pulut kuning. dahla pulut kuning macam gunung kena tarah. HAHA. gasak ah, dah lepas dah pon. tapi pendek2 pon pulut kuning tu, pendek lagi aku. HAHAHA

aku nye requirement simple je, tp outcome rupa tak mcm aku mintak n harga tak secheap yg aku budget sbb aku mmg mintak simple sgt2 ala2 martha stewart yg rupa cincai tp cam ada kekonon tarikan tersendiri.
Tp sedap kot sbb half an hour later, top layer dah hilang kena balun. Mmg self-service betulla guest2 aku hahahaha, tp happy la aku, sbb aku suka kek org enjoy drpd takde sapa nak makan, ye tak? ;)

if you have the equipment, patience and skill boleh je buat sendiri. i pernah bake my own carrot cake and it turns out well. utk wedding ni nak tempah je. takde mase akak nak buat semua uols.

aku beli 2 biji kek lepas tu frosting and assembling tu sume hantar kat bakery tak perlis. takde keje aku nak angkut kek 2 tingkat dlm keta. kang tumbang naya je. putih mata semua orang tak dapat makan kek. huhu

nasib baik kak haidar sempat carikkan orang utk pulut tu. klo tak lagi haru. patutlah mase ko nak potong pulut tu, nash ckp surprise. yang tak tahan tau la surprise kan potong pulut, lagu tu pun bunyi cam saspen je. hiks.

ko order kek ape n dekat mane? aku nak buttercream sedap fondant mahal. lepas tu cam la boleh makan decoration comel2 segala tu. buang duit je. well, lesson learned mase tunang aritu kan.

haha. guests sangat self-service. but then it's for them to eat kan. so no qualm la. aku pun niat camtu. sape nak makan, makanlah. sebab tu nak kek yang sedap. tanaklah kek yang biase2 yang boleh beli kat kedai tu.

aah!betul jugak..frosting kat atas je ke?between layers tu xpayah..sebab yg jadi tak canteknye bile cream cheese kat tgh tu cair, kek terbelah dua kat tengah...haha..

moose! me also one simple cake with no kerawang2 bagai... but anyhow i prolly opt for the classic vanilla with choc ganache; sandwich them erkk ;p ... eh try norrizan bakers at PJ they make superb cakes; look and taste wise. bite me is tooo sweet.

redvelvet is sooo yummy! tp tula kan, takleh berpanas, xpun amik juga redvevet just masa nak potong then ask someone to put it there on the cake cutting table?

oh i was thinking of having frosting kt tengah2 tu je sbb on the top is impossible sebab nanti i nak suruh bakery kat perlis tu assemble both 2 cakes (as per pic) and letak buttercream frosting. tapi ala...nanti terbelah 2 plak wed cake ku itu. huhu.

kek MAC memang sedap tapi tula aku tanak fondant. nak buttercream je. plan nye nak kek sedap2 la. sebab bile orang cam tgk luar kek "eh eleh biase je, kek beli kedai" tapi bila makan "wallah, red velvet cake n carrot cake gitu"

haha. siap ade dialog. tak tahan!

mmg ah fondant tu lawa je kot, pastu bukan boleh buat makan, haha, such a waste, tapi lawa susah gak nak kawal nafsu gajah ni kan.

tgk boleh, rasa jangan sekali2 (buh signbod) haha! itukan redvelvet kang habis camne aku ngan nawal nak melantak.
