DiGi Presents the HTC Evo 3D

Remember a while ago how I made fool of myself and was chosen as (one of the) winners to do a review on the uber cool and awesome HTC Evo 3D?

Well, guess what? My star might be shining because I could actually be in the run of winning the phone!

*jumping jacks*

First of all, I would like to thank Nuffnang and especially Digi for extending the Buka Puasa invitation the other day and for letting us made a fool of ourselves because if it wasn't for that, there wouldn't be any rewards to be given, would there? And also many thanks to my team mates who were such in high spirits and willing to do whatever it takes.

GIIRRRRRLLL POOOWWWEEERRR!!!!

And not forgetting The Bee as the venue sponsor and the scrumptious food that they served. I was actually there few weeks ago lepaking with our cousins and truly the food was still amazing. Before this "thank you" speech drags into that Academy Awards kinda speech, let me focus on the most important matter, which is the phone itself.

Presenting the phone that is so smart, it needs two cameras instead of just one.

But hey, remember how Taylor Swift and Boys Like Girls used to sing that two is better than one? Yes, it is indeed true because one of the key features of this phone with its dual cameras is that it has the ability to take 3D photo. Yeah, you heard me right, 3D photo. I.AM.NOT.KIDDING. I was actually having so much fun snapping photos away and crossing my eyes (and others. LOL) out to see the 3D-ness of the photos which sometimes can come out looking so realistic that you can bid goodbyes to those fugly looking 3D spectacles that the cinemas are forcing you to wear.

During the 2 weeks review period that I had, whenever I take out the phone out of my handbag to answer calls or whatever, people will ALWAYS say,

"Woah, such a huge screen you got there!"

"Yes, the better to Tweet-ing and Facebook-ing"

*social networks addict alert*

-_______-

Of course it's huge. It's 4.3 inch. That's almost as high as your high heels.

You know how iPhone users would always complaint that they have to purchase certain apps that they like on iTunes web? Well, THE best part and also my personal favourite is the fact that HTC is using Android as its platform, you can generally and basically download most of the applications (apps) available on HTC website for free. Like the other day, I downloaded this Pumpkins vs Monsters game and got so carried away with it.

It's actually a no-brainer game but gets more challenging as you move into higher level. There was this time, I was so into in lepas tu some stupid monsters get into my fortress and I lost the game! Mengelupur atas katil I tell you. And of course, my husband has nothing better to say than to laugh at my childish act. Shame shame (as our cousin's daughter and son would say).

If you were to ask me on technical aspects of the phone, then I am sorry cos I'm not the one that you should refer to. I am such a noob when it comes to smart gadgets. I think my PIL know better about latest gadgets than I do. They have iPad, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy Tab and lots of other thingamajing when I only use Nokia E71. I kid you not.

And the greatest news is that Digi is really being the sweetheart and comes up with an affordable plan for all whether you are a postpaid or prepaid user.

It's affordable, isn't it?

Review: HTC Evo 3D

Nuffnang and not forgetting, Digi are nice to award my teammates and I the brand spanking phone review after we made a fool of ourselves here.

So I got the taste of trying the smartphone for 2 weeks. Lo and behold, HTC Evo 3D!

Knock myself on the head for not having any actual photos of the phone.

The very first thing that you're gonna notice apart from huge 4.3 inch touchscreen is the dual camera. Well, the phone as the name suggests, has the function of taking 3D photos.

You can have the option of choosing 2D or 3D camera mode with the slid key

Exhibit A

It's interesting that the phone has the ability of taking 3D picture, though your eyes would have quite a hard time adjusting & finding the right angle to see the 3D-ness of it. Unfortunately, 3D image has an .mpo format and since normal PC doesn't support .mpo file, one has to convert it using some thingamajig software.

Instead of crossing my eyes trying to figure out the 3D effects, I am more interested in taking the normal 2D photos of myself.

Exhibit B

OK, I look like a deer caught in the headlights. Or maybe possessed, by the spirit of one-that-eats-too-much-lemang-and-rendang.

Edited with warm vintage filter

The phone also records a high definition (HD) video but the video that I took was a bit private to share. Now, before you start going into THAT direction, sorry to disappoint you with the thought but it's not some home tape of Paris Hilton, ok. Lets keep the review an U (umum), shall we?

*clears throat*

At first, I was having difficulties in figuring out how to actually use the phone but after quite some time, I got the hang of it. I am a smartphone noob but my husband is a user of iPhone and surprisingly the phone's functions and interface is quite similar to iPhone. So yeah, I would say that it is indeed user friendly.

And since all HTC phones operate on Android, meaning that you can download (most of) the applications for FREE! Yay for me and yay to playing games without having to fight over the phone with my husband, for 2 weeks.

I can see that my husband is silently nodding to this.

When you have such a smart phone that can practically get you connected (provided that your place has internet coverage), what would you do when everyone seems busy talking to each other?

You update your Twitter

and Facebook. And spamming your friends' wall wishing them "Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Maaf Zahir & Batin"

Actual names have been removed due to privacy.
It's a smart-freaking-phone y'all. Social networking on the go. Yo.

You know what, if you are tech-savvy and interested to get a hold of the phone, you can actually do so because Digi is now coming up with an affordable smart plan.

More details here
Lastly, thousand thanks to Digi & Nuffnang for picking us, the Sensation team as a winner and giving us the chance to review such an awesome phone. Even if for only 2 weeks. But you know what, giving out the phone ACTUALLY for free doesn't sound bad, right?

Ehem.

Digi Buka Puasa

I think by now, I am the only one who still hasn't blog about the Digi event.

Anyway, on Thurday (25th Aug) I was lucky enough to score an invite to an iftar event organized by Nuffnang & Digi at The Bee, Jaya One.

I was the few first to arrive despite the crazy traffic jem in PJ. Being such a social blogger noob, I probably was the only one who didn't have any camera in tow.

Attempt to be a social butterfly, failed miserably.

After registration, each of us were then given a menu paper for ordering. I ordered an avocado burger with fries and a (very sour) lemonade together with free flow of drinks. While waiting for azan, yes you had correctly guessed it - it's photo time.

With table-mate Ginny, Uzair, Areal & Henry

Then there were an ice breaking session and games were played. I was fidgeting in my seat, tempting to get that first bite of the burger. Food was a OK, well at least mine is. But in my opinion, nothing beats burgers from Carl's Jr. It was supposed to be a free flow of drink but sadly after finishing my first glass of uber sour lemonade, I didn't get a second serving of Coke that I asked for and neither did my table-mates. Amd we're seated in front of the drinks counter that you could hardly miss us! I guess, the waiters'/waiteresses' hands were too full. I wished that they could be more attentive.

After everyone seemed to have finished eating, Digi representative who I have seem to forgot his name introduced the HTC-DIGI packages that they have. They also introduced the soon to be launched HTC Sensation & HTC Evo 3D.

Then another games were played. A team must consists of 3 person. At first I was reluctant to move my butt off the chair and just wanna enjoy my dessert but this opportunity to be a social butterfly (yeah, right..) comes once in a life time. So I bid goodbye to churros and

say hello to my teammates;

Gosh, I hate that smug face of mine.

Our team name was Sensation. We entered both games but lost on the first game which the reward was a review for HTC Sensation. We stayed and proceeded with the second game and won! Yay! Girl powerrrr! The reward was a HTC Evo 3D review, which coming up really soon.

Before we ended the night, what would a bunch of bloggers usually do?

We took group picture, of course!

Contest

The first time I had actually entered a contest and won was the Impulse Spice contest when I was in Form 2. My 5 words slogan to describe Spice Girls Impulse had landed me third place and got myself a CD of their single - Spice Up Your Life, which I still keep until today.

And for a while I was actively entering contest that is entertainment related. My mom and I love word puzzle that we even entered the Utusan Malaysia word puzzle contest and to have missed 3 words and lost our chance to win the money prize of RM 10,000 about 2-4 years ago.

Since then I've stopped joining any contest at all.

In August, out of blue and for fun's sake, I joined a contest by Nuffnang in conjunction with the spy movie SALT and surprisingly my entry was picked among the best 70 entries and I got myself 2 free tickets to the premiere screening.

This time around, for fun's sake as well, I wrote a comment on Nuffnang's web page about the coming-soon movie Takers. We were asked to write a comment on what would you do to catch the Takers if you were a detective. And this is the comment that I wrote;

Moose Says:

October 6th, 2010 at 10:22 pm

They say, if you can’t beat them, join them. And that’s exactly what would I do if I were a detective whose mission is to catch the Takers.

I will be an expert in bank robbery ala Charlize Theron in Italian’s Job, you know – blonde, sexy and enticing enough for them not to realize the fact that I am an undercover detective. Once I get into their circle of Takers and they implant their trust in me, I will then bring them down. One by one by luring them into a game of complex double cross until they can’t take it anymore.

Alhamdulillah, the comment got me 2 free invites to watch the premiere screening of Takers on Monday, 25 October 2010.

I am so psyched!

Synopsis:
TAKERS revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) is close on their heels, hell-bent on solving the case. When the gang attempts to pull off one last job with more money at stake than they ever imagined, it becomes a complex game of double cross and who’s “taking” who.

Hayden Christensen, here I come!!!!!!

Premiere Screening

Hola Darlings!

Work is mundane. Wedding progress is mundane. Heck, even I am mundane. Nothing exciting is happening lately. I feel like I was running my life on an auto-pilot mode, like the movie Click. It's the same old same old routine every day.

But....
On Monday (23.7.2010), Fiance and I attended the premiere screening of the movie Salt, courtesy of Nuffnang! Remember the entry of "What If I Am A Russian Spy" that I wrote few weeks back? Ehem, apparently mine was among the 75 best written entry and that chicas, qualified me 2 (free) tickets to the premiere screening!

Woot woot.

Even I was surprised when I received the invitation via e-mail from Nuffnang. Like my crappy English got me an invite to premiere screening. Like wow. Beat that Fiance!

HAHA.

It was an OK movie. Lots of kick ass stunts and actions. The plot was simple and straight forward but with little twist towards the end. Like any typical spy movie. Actually it's quite nice to watch an action-packed spy movie with female as its main character. I mean, how many movie featuring female spies are there? It's so rare for female to be a spy. So the feminist in me, jumping with glee at the thought of Jolie (finally) acting as a female spy. If I were a Russian spy, I want a hot body exactly like Angelina Jolie. With pouty thick lips and sharp facial features. She is stunning. In fact, I was gaped with admiration.

But.............

Inception beats SALT, 1000 times over. I guess after watching such amazing movie like Inception, nothing is comparable to it.

What If I'm A Russian Spy

Some of you may not know this but my dad was an army officer. Not just an ordinary army officer, he was in THE Special Force. Cool right. Damn it was cool!

So when he retired, I was still in Standard 4 and still not know that my awesome dad worked in Special Force until I was big enough to understand it all.

Then it was too late to appreciate what he did. Now, I guess why he got excited at any combat movies explained it all. And how he dragged his family to watch combat movies at the cinemas.

Growing up I was very intrigued by the thought of becoming a spy. Isn't it awesome. Living in a dark mysterious life, always on the go with some top secret missions? Talk about adrenaline rush, all the time! Wow.

And why in the movies, we rarely see female spies. Ah well, except Totally Spies but that's a cartoon so it doesn't count. All we get were the (in)famous James Bond whose only true skill(s) was to seduce females, villain or no villain. Pfftt.

So what if I'm a spy? A Russian spy to be exact. Don't ask me why Russian. I am trying to win a Nuffnang contest here. Hiks.

So what if I'm a Russian spy? First of all, I must look Russian-ish no?

1. Dyed your hair blonde to look Russian-ish.

Now that step 1 is done, we move on to step 2.

2. Gadgets

It's a must have for every spy. Spies will look so uncool without their gadgets. And how I'm supposed to be a spy without all the hi-tech customize gadgets? I mean even Inspector Gadget has his gadgets and that's where he got his name. And for my mission, I choose:

1. Sony bloggie™ Camera
2. Laptop Backpack
3. Sunglasses

Camera is to capture the evidence and spying purpose. Laptop backpack to carry the super cool hi-tech laptop that I'll be using to communicate with my superior about the mission and sunglasses to look good. Ehem, I mean we have to look good regardless what the missions are, right?

3. Mission

Since I am a novice in this whole spying business, it would only be fair that I'll be entrusted with a small mission to begin with. So as per instructed by my superior, my mission is to find.......

THE BEST FACIAL/SPA IN TOWN!

Oh.. Now that is (quite) challenging!

First of all, I would read lots and lots of review from the Internet, the source of everything, of the best spa and facial treatment in town. Then seductively, I will go to each and every one of them to try out without having to pre-book since these places are normally exclusive and busy that you have to book weeks if not months ahead before your appointment. This negotiating skill is a skill that only top notch spy can acquire.

After I got myself a place in these exclusive spas, I will try to dig out the secret products and techniques that they have been using and capture the evidences using Sony bloggie™ Camera given to me earlier without having the therapist notice it. If I can have it my way, I will intogerate the therapist in order to hand me the secret but I will not jeopardize my identity as my spy career is a long way to go, so I settle for more subtle way. After the session finished, I will quickly transfer those images to my superior and walkaway happily, with the stylish sunglasses in my hand, as the mission is accomplished.

This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds.

This contest is in conjunction with the movie SALT.

Sypnosis

Angelina Jolie stars in Columbia Pictures’ Salt, a contemporary espionage thriller. Before becoming a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. She will prove loyal to these when a defector accuses her of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, protect her husband, and stay one step ahead of her colleagues at the CIA.
