Flöhmarkt

Some of you may already know that I used to live in Germany for good old 5 years.

When I was staying in Frankfurt for my Diplomarbeit, I used to frequented the Frankfurt's flea market a lot. I was in a way one of the regulars. There are 2 major flea markets in Frankfurt and both are held on Saturdays. There is one which near to my rented house; Frankfurt Hoechst and another one is near to the Rhein(?) river, and is smack in the middle of Frankfurt's old town.

I'm an avid vintage lover. Apart from flea market, thrift shop and Ebay are the best next thing to find these hidden treasures. The smell of thrifted and vintage clothes might be appalling to some but I couldn't care less. Vintage pieces are rare and you won't be caught dead wearing the same top with 5 other different people. If you are an individualist like me, you should have known better.

I want to share some of the photos that (H and) I took during one of my visits. H visited me in Frankfurt on that particular weekend and I just had to tag him along!

Yours truly, busy scouting and eye-ing things
Old books.

I bought Vogue Guide to Cosmetic and Beauty book for a mere 8Euro here. I also got myself an Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll for 4Euro, but not here. Old English books are hard to find, so whenever I saw one, I just had to buy.

Jackets, blazers and coats. And yes, they are different.
Vintage dresses.
Gadgets.
I would love to upload more photos but my internet connection is being a pain in the ass right now and I just don't have the patience to wait.

Next, I would love to share some of vintage items that I had bought (and re-sell) over the years.

Vintage Make-up

As you may or may not know, I am an avid vintage lover. In other words, I'm a sucker of everything that is vintage. Vintage shoes, clothing, bags or men. Eh, vintage men don't count. And neither do cars.

Exhibit A: Vintage men. Ini ai takmau

Exhibit B: Vintage men ini ai mau la..hihiks

Since I'll be DIY-ing my own make-up on my engagement day, lately I've been searching high and low for some inspirations. And what do I look for in make-up?

  1. As natural as possible. I want to look presentable and nice but not to the point even my own mother cannot recognise me.

  2. Easy to do. Something that even someone with the very basic skills can do. Someone like me la tu. Muahaha.

  3. Using make-up tools that I already have or if not, things that I know I will be using again and again. Like a good liquid eyeliner or something.

  4. Instructions that are not complicated to follow.

I google-d up vintage make-up tutorial and found fews on Youtube. Among those my favourites are.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S55acLTllss Sorry, can't embedded the video here as it has been disabled by the user. But it is easy and I like it. But maybe I'll opted out the flaming red lips. Not much for my liking. I'd go for something more light and demure. Also, red lipstick is notorious for making one's teeth looks yellow, which I want to avoid that! Unless you have a veeerrrryyy white teeth like this one,

Look at my grills, they are shining, bling!

p/s: If you have the time, watch this video. The girl is so cute and pretty and she's still in high school! Another make-up tutorial from her that I like is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S55acLTllss. A tutorial on Kim Kardashian inspired make-up.

I also love this girl, she's a genius! I followed her blog before and tried one of her recipe for natural home-made facial scrub and it works like wonders to me skin! My skin was glowing like a glow worms. Eh, apakah? Perbandingan yang tidak best.

Vintage Is Back!

I saw a cute vintage bowler hat few weeks ago at a flea market and nearly bought it! Luckily my senses knock me off. Oh that reminds me, if all you don't know, I'm a quite vintage fan esp. the clothing from the 70's. I don't know why exactly I'm so into the 70's, maybe because of the hippy dippy vibes? I don't really know. So whenever I have time (God knows when) I'm meaning to post up vintage stuffs that I had acquired since last year. Until then, stay tuned..

Bitten By The Thrift Bug

A cute animation with French song by Edith Piaf.

****

I went to the second hand shop in my town that I mentioned earlier in one of my post. I was actually looking for a braided belt, something similar to what Jeunedemoiselle had on here.

Unfortunately there were none but I came home with all these instead.

[L-R: Esprit checkered shirt for 2.50€, 2 brown belts for 2€ each, blue string belt 1€ and straw handbag/clutch for 2.50€]

Excuse the low quality, they're taken using my phones cam.

I nearly bought a big vintage sunglasses for 3€ but end up not buying it because I look like my granny in it! The lady at the shop even tried the sunglasses and modelled them for me. I honestly think the sunglasses really look good on her rather than on me. I love to room through the shop more if only the shop lady doesn't follow me around! It really turns me off because I hate it whenever sales assistant/someone keep tailing on me when I'm shopping. Perhaps she's kinda excited that finally she had a customer that actually bought something?

I never think that thrifting can be so much fun! It's like searching for hidden treasure of something because you'll never know what you'll find and the price is so cheap! I think from now on I'm gonna give up shopping at normal store like H&M, Zara or MNG.

Once you go thrift, you'll never go back.

First of all

.. I'm terribly sorry for neglecting my blog for so long. It's just that I've been busy lately. However I'm really grateful that after searching for an apprentice place for so long and went to listless interviews, I managed to score a place. And now, I had a huge headache finding a room/apartment in such a short time! I should have not said that I will begin as soon as possible if I'd know that finding a decent place can be this tiring! Oh well, promises had been made.

Apropos promise yes, I know that I promised all of you the pictures but I've to apologize one more time as I still don't have the pictures.

My friends, my boyfriend and I went to Istanbul the other day during Easter for 2 days, and we had so much fun and I got to see my boyfriend! I haven't seen him for about a month since he moved to the new place. As much as I would love to post the pictures here but I'm afraid I'm gonna pass. I'm still don't comfortable disclosing my identity. OK, maybe a couple of pics where no full frontal image of me in it, deal?

The entrance to Grand Bazaar

This is where we got so overwhelmed and spend most of our money

The famous Blue Mosque or Sultan Ahmet Mosque

Yeah, that's me alright, acting all crazy and goofy on the streets of Istanbul

The headscarf that I'm wearing is actually bought at the Grand Bazaar for 6 Lira which is about RM12? It's pretty cheap here in Istanbul, the key is to haggle most of the items to half of its price. The other thing is being Muslim and comes from Malaysia. Seriously it's like the word Malaysia had been plastered all over our forehead or something. It's like everywhere we went, we're stopped by people asking do we come from Malaysia or Indonesia but they always suspected the former. Now enough of Istanbul and its lovely cheap scarves, or its coloured hand-painted porcelain wares..and no-fuss-halal-food-is-everywhere...

Last weekend I went to the flea market in my town. When it's raining and cold, it surely can kill your mood to freely browse through all the items. I saw a couple of beautiful vintage shoes but sadly none of them are in my size. I almost bought a sheer black blouse that is 200 times larger that my size (yeah, I'm exaggerating here) because I'm in love with its high frilly Victorian neck but quickly come to my senses. And also I hate the seller who won't reduce the price of his very vintage and hand-painted gold Swiss-made pocket watch cum pendant. I'm not a big fan of accessories but that one really caught my eyes. Other than that I love the lady who's freezing because of the cold weather and sold me a lovely 50's/60's leather handbag for only 2Euro without hesitation.

Dear lady, I love you so much that I even mention you on my blog! You rock my world! Yeah!

Vintage handbag: thrifted 2€

Well, quite a lengthy post huh? I thought it should cover up all the posts I've been meaning to write but don't.

Gay Men Boyfriends Are Women Best Friend

I thrifted a men's grey wool cardigan at the second-hand shop 2 weeks ago. Initially I though that since it's men's cardigan it would be long enough for me to wear it as a long baggy cardigan. But that was not before my bf saw it and said that it don't fit me and that I looked trashy in it, but wait! the surprise is yet to come.. he tried and liked it! he even persuade me to give it to him! Apparently a few days before he bought himself a black cardigan and now he's in this phase of experimenting the whole preppy smart "Gossip Girl" kinda look. And yes, this coming from a guy who always warned me not to shop so much. *Sigh* Although he won't/never admit that he enjoys shopping, I know deep inside he does! But wait, that would be great right? I now have a shopping buddy! *giggles* Oh, it would so much fun! Lets just hope he's not gay, no! The only downside is that I can't thrift any men's wear anymore or he'll snatch them from me, too!

Cardigan: thrifted
Long top: H&M
Leggings: Zara
Belt: H&M
Leg warmers: H&M
Boots: Vintage

In my previous post I did mentioned about the two vintage shoes that I won at Ebay, so I present you..*drum rolls*

[L-R: 80's vintage camel coloured pumps, my toes crying for help]

I freaking love this shoes but they are tad too tight for me! As you can see in the second pic, I swear I can hear my toes screaming, oh poor them. My friend told me that beauty is pain but I don't wanna end up being cripple for the rest of my life just because some vintage shoes won't fit my big feet. Boo-ho!

60's vintage 'Budapest' pump

The reason why left foot is bare and the right wears fishnet stockings? None. I'm cuckoo, that's all.

p/s: my bf thinks the 2nd shoes is cute. I'm a happy girl. :)

******
Correction: the cardigan is not thrifted at second-hand shop, but rather at Ebay. I forgot about that.

Demi Cinta Kepada Vintage Episod III

Pembetulan: saya suka bergaya didepan kamera sebenarnya. Masalah sebenarnya di sini adalah saya malas untuk memuat naik (upload) gambar tersebut dari kamera ke komputer/komputer riba. Ini adalah satu tabiat yang tidak elok, bukan?

Apapun saya berasa gembira kerana:

Sekian, terima kasih.

For The Love Of Vintage Part II

I did paid a visit to the second shop and boy, was I disappointed! The shop was exactly like it was supposed to be, a second hand shop. A place where people sold their unwanted things and I tell you, really unwanted things. It's very small, so small that the shopkeeper and I barely could move around the same clothes racks. Choices of clothes are not wide, and barely fashionable. Just a piece of baggy old material hanging. However they not only sell clothes but other stuff like porcelain ware, a few shoes, bags and small items like brooches, hat needles etc. Although I'm kinda disappointed I do find a shoe that's adorable and a few belts that caught my attention.

(Note to self: Must go there again, to try the shoe on and check out the belts)

And yes, this is so unlikely me, but I want to post my purchase of the day!
The Nicole Richie Blouse

The Nicole Richie Blouse that I've drooling forever is finally on sale! And I got it for 20€ less. Yay! I worn it with a black turtle neck shirt underneath, a wide black belt, blue-ish denim like leggings and vintage leather boots.

This not even the purchase of day, but I feel like posting it anyway. I bought this vintage 70ies dress a long time ago, even before the my craze about anything/everything vintage started. I've been wearing it mainly as a nighties. But then the print is so cute and I can also wear it as a day dress. I wear a belt around the waist as the dress is a lil bit shapeless. I'm thinking of ripping off the ruffles collar around the neck as I find it rather "distracting" and might as well remove the two pockets around the hip area (I dont know if you can see it) but then they look kinda cute, so I might keep them that way. What do you think?

p/s: On a totally different note, I find myself fat in these pictures!!

For The Love Of Vintage

Since I'm so into vintage clothing right now, I've been hunting some vintage stuff(s) on Ebay like a mad woman lately. So here's some of interesting pieces that I found:

Oxford pattern pump from the 60-ies
(I love the sturdiness of the heels)

Nude coloured pump (year unknown)

Hippie dress from the 70-ies
(update: a buyer place a higher price than me!ARGH!)

Vintage Leather Sling Bag from the 80-ies

I'm also planning on hitting a second hand shop here in the town that I accidently discovered a few weeks ago and also the flea market that takes place every weekend (or is it every two weeks?) here, only the problem is that I don't know the exact place. I haven't pay a visit to the second hand shop yet so I don't know what to expect, whether or not they have vintage clothing that wearable or just a bunch of junk but I'm hoping that I could at least find something. Ebay is a good reliable source to find vintage items, but the only problem is that you have to sometimes compete with other buyer or else end up not having the item you want.

So I really really really hope that my *ehem* bidding skill(s) work its way...somehow.
