Wedding Cake

Truth to tell, I hate to still talk about my wedding. But then, when I checked my Nuffnang, I found that someone was googling "Moose wedding cake" and that I feel oblige to inform whoever that particular person might be.

In here, I mentioned that I wanted a simple yet delicious cake. H's aunty owns a bakery in Klang and she makes the yummiest cookies (watch for this space for your Raya cookies) and cakes that I've tasted that I decided to initially order the cake from her. But towards the end, my MIL decided to bake the cakes (for FREE!) for me. My MIL bake the scrumptious red velvet cupcake  making Whisk RVC tastes nothing. And no, I am not being biased. Her RVC is the bomb diggity yo!

Simple yet delish!

My wedding cake consists of 2 tier cake with RVC on top and carrot cake on the bottom with vanilla buttercream frosting. And yeah, I purposely not over-decorated it. Less is more, classy and elegant. Just like the way I like my things in life to be.

Of Cake

I like the simplicity of the cake above. Less is more isn't it?

My ideal wedding cake must be delicious. I have no other requirement apart from it has to be 2-tier with vanilla buttercream frosting and must have separate flavor for each tier. I had a fondant cake as hantaran for my super simple and small engagement in February. Fondant cake is pretty, yes but we all know that we can't eat the sugary paste and decoration, right?

I was planning to have a red velvet and carrot cake for each of the tier. So I emailed few vendors regarding my request. Only one of them replied. From the way she replied, it's impossible to have red velvet as a wedding cake unless your venue is air conditioned. If you're having a home reception like mine, I think I have to forgo the idea. Red velvet cake is normally frosted with cream cheese.

But red velvet is so delish!

What other alternative do I have? I do not want the typical chocolate, butter or even fruit cake. B.O.R.I.N.G!

So far, I've emailed That Last Slice and Bite Me! for the cakes. No prize in guessing which one hasn't reply yet.

I am open to any suggestion and recommendation on the cake, really. So feel free to jot down in the comment box below.

Thanks in advance.

Dessert Buffet

I am always fascinated by the idea of small, budgeted, DIY and whimsical wedding reception. I feel that it is more my "kind" of wedding as opposed to the grand, protocol-laden and hotel reception. I have no particular theme in mind for my wedding other than (I can't stress enough on this), it has to be casual, fun and most importantly something that reflects ME! As I was browsing through pages and pages of Snippet & Ink - my favourite nuptial blog, especially this wedding of Jenny & Kyle where they challenged their guests for a bake off instead of having a wedding cake, light bulb magically appears on my head.

Picture from Snippet & Ink

Let me introduce you a little bit of my maternal family. My mom is the 6th child of her family of 10 siblings. Huge family, I know right? Being in such a huge family is definitely a bless if your aunts and uncle are blessed with cooking and baking talents. I know for the fact that mom's sister is such a great cook. She can whip a complete meal of lunch in a mere 30 minutes. Such a superwoman, she is. My another aunt is a good baker and she has her own baking business at home, where she takes orders on Kek Lapis Sarawak and the likes for every Raya. Another aunt makes extra income from selling local kuihs daily, and they are good because by 5pm all the kuihs are sold out! Another aunt makes brownies that is too die for! It's chewy, not too sweet and chocolate-y, just the way I like it!

One cousin on my paternal family makes the sinfully delicious 3-minutes-no-bake chocolate cake! I went back home during last Eid Adha to celebrate it with my family and got my first taste of her cake. Sufficient to say, all the calories that I burnt during my gym sessions, I gained it triple during that Raya Haji. And if it's not bad enough, I am now fasting and at the same time salivating for the taste of cake inside my mouth! The moist dark brown chocolate cake with chocolate ganache on top. Heaven!

And it would be only inappropriate if I had not exploit their talents, am I right? Ngeeeeee.

This is merely a suggestion, but I think I will propose to mom later. Since we're gonna have the food catered and all, this will be an only way for them to at least contribute to my wedding (provided that they want to). With such talents (and mouth-watering desserts), who needs a candy buffet? And perhaps, who needs a wedding cake?

p/s: Orang cakap berangan itu indah tapi realiti tak indah. Baking oven mak aku dahla kecik je, mana muat dan sempat nak buat segala kek dan desserts yang sedap ni! Omak, sila beli oven baru!

Mini Cakes

This entry is long overdue actually. Baru rajin nak transfer gambar. Hiks.

During my engagement in February, one of the hantarans from me to my fiance was cakes. Mini cakes to be exact. I like the idea of giving out mini cakes as cupcakes and cakes had become somewhat common nowadays. And so the search for the design began. I found few designs that I like and saved it inside my folder. My cake folder to be exact.

Don't you just love having a folder for each wedding related item? So far, in my hard disk, I have a veil, cake, dress, pelamin, decoration, shoes, make-up, hand bouquet folders. Though I can be a bit anal when it comes to organizing and archiving things la kan. Kalau boleh semua benda pun aku nak buat folder. Haha.

Eh, digress plak. Back to the mini cakes. After I found the design that I want, I short-listed few cake maker that I had found through the net. Bloghopping sana sini and terjumpa. Mind you I only go for those yang di-review oleh bloggers. Sebab most bloggers ni honest kan. Mahal cakap mahal and sedap cakap sedap. So I (kinda) trust their word.

Contact sana sini. Mintak harga and minimum order semua. After much consideration, I decided to go for MAC. Bukan MAC make-up tu ye. Ini MAC yang stands for Made About Cake. Tu dia. Gila sebab kek. Matilah abes orang jadi gila lepas makan kek. Hiks.

Example of mini cakes that I ordered. Yang bawah tu kek lapis Sarawak.

So, after email Chef Zam, minimum order quantity for mini cake is 7 pieces at RM17 each. Dia cakap tak kesah design macam mana, insya Allah they can do it. Tapi for more intricate design, the price will be charge according la. Tapi kalau setakat flowers here and there, RM17 per piece.

If I still remember, they have 2 flavours to choose from, chocolate fudge and vanilla. I choose chocolate fudge and man, choc fudge dia sedap! Not to moist but not too dry. Just nice. I think the texture sesuai la kot untuk fondant cake sebab kalau moist sangat fondant tu cair la pulak.

So there, if you're looking for a cake maker, you can take Made About Cake into consideration or visit their blog for further info.
